In partnership with CoGo, HURR developed its Carbon Savings Calculator to quantify the environmental savings of renting with us. By renting versus buying, you are causing a positive impact by reducing the amount of carbon being emitted into the atmosphere. Daily activities, such as driving a car, contribute negatively to the environment by producing large amounts of carbon. Excessive carbon in the atmosphere can be offset by the planting of trees which use carbon in their natural cycle. On each product page, you can see how much carbon has been saved, shown as miles driven in a car, alongside the number of trees required to offset the extra carbon should you have chosen to buy that item.
The calculator compares the savings made by renting compared to the environmental costs of manufacturing those same or similar items for the first time and only wearing them once.
HURR doesn’t own the items rented through the platform and does not have access to item-specific data (including production techniques, manufacturing process, fabrics and dyes). The diversity of items across the platform of items, sizes, and styles required an application of averages approved by CoGo, to best estimate HURR’s environmental savings.
The CoGo algorithms and analysis across the HURR platform assume a displacement rate of a rented garment as opposed to buying it new and wearing it once.
